Czech Republic: Bobrovsky Expecting Tough Test

10 January 2006

Gambrinus Brno coach Jan Bobrovsky feels his team will have to be at their best if they are to overcome UMMC Ekaterinburg in the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday.

The Czech side, who sit top of Group B after eight matches, beat their Russian rivals 78-65 earlier in the campaign.

But Bobrovsky believes Ekaterinburg will come back a much stronger force when the two teams meet for the return fixture in Brno.

"We have seen a video from the last game against Ekaterinburg in Sopron but it will be a different team in Brno on Wednesday," he said.

"They will be very strong under the basket following the arrival of (centre) Malgorzata Dydek but their strongest players are (Suzy) Batkovic from Australia and American (Yolanda) Griffith.

"We won the game in Ekaterinburg despite the bad performance of the referees, who did not see many fouls by the home team, mostly by Batkovic."

Brno returned from their Christmas break in style as they defeated Sparta Prague 107-41 in the domestic league on Saturday.

Bobrovsky believes that performance proved the rest period had done his players the world of good.

"I believe my players had a good rest during the Christmas break," he added.

"You can see how happy they are when they play now.

"We played really well in the first half against Sparta Prague.

"I am very happy that (Hana) Machova and (Zuzana) Zirkova are playing better and better. On the other hand, (De Lisha) Milton is not in good shape.

"We will see how she plays against Ekaterinburg."
