The encounter between the Czech Republic and Romania needed overtime to establish the winner.
In the end the Czechs prevailed, 75-71, and they will play Italy for 9th place at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women.
The Czech team led by a 14-point difference midway through the second quarter, 38-24, but the Romanians, led by Sonia Ursu and Alina Craciun, used a 10-0 run to come within two possessions at halftime, 38-34.
The hosts continued their comeback, and took the lead with 1:39 to go in the third quarter, behind a three-pointer made by Alina Grigore, 47-48.
But they finished the quarter with an incredible drought, receiving seven consecutive points, without scoring, and they entered the final period trailing 54-48.
However they managed to come back in the game, and they were leading 60-61, after Sonia Ursu split two free throws. Nada Salacova made both of her free throws with 48 seconds to go and then Laura Pal, leveled the score from the line, 62-62.
But the Romanian point guard missed a potential game-winning free throw with 45 second left, as no other team scored again.
In overtime, Romania led by four with 3:27 to go, 64-68, but then, once again, just couldn't hold on, and the Czechs forced an 11-0 run to grab the game.
Sonia Ursu had a double-double, with 25 points, 14 rebounds and six steals for Romania.
Michaela Vojtková posted her own double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds, to go with her five assists while Nada Salacova finished with 11 points, nine boards and four blocks.
