Barbora Kasparkova poured in 26 points as the Czech Republic came from behind in the final two minutes to open their U20 European Championship Women Division B campaign with a 66-60 win over Belgium.

The Czechs would have been home free were it not for some dismal free throw shooting, but instead Belgium eradicated what was a 56-47 Czech lead with 6:22 to go.

The Belgians led, 60-59, on Alisson Mai's free throws with 2:16 to go, but Kasparkova responded with a jump-shot and two free throws to turn it around before Karolina Elhotova's three-pointer made sure.

The Czechs made just 7-of-15 (46.7%) from the charity stripe.

Emmanuella Mayombo led Belgium with 21 points.

Greece See Off Bulgaria

Greece held off a Bulgarian rally to win their opening game 55-48.

Greece had led 26-14 at half-time, but watched Bulgaria outscore them 18-9 in the third period to get back in it.

They kept coming, and when Viktoriya Stoycheva split a pair of free throws with 38 seconds left, the Greek lead was 50-48.

But Artemis Spanou came up with big baskets down the stretch to win it en route to a game high 12 points with 13 rebounds.

Germany, Hungary Secure Wins

There were no such dramas for Germany as they routed Romania 95-66 behind 21 points from Finja Schaake and 15 apiece from Judith Schmidt and Sonja Greinacher.

Hungary held off Israel to open with a 70-64 win.

Hungary led almost all the way and were up 47-36 at the start of the fourth, but Israel closed to within 59-58 on Inbar Lev Ron's three-pointer with 1:43 left in the game.

Hungary responded with six straight points and Bettina Baksa and Szidonia Katona sank key free throws at the finish.

Krisztina Velkey had 16 points to lead Hungary, while Bar Galinski poured in 25 for Israel.
