Spain March To Third Straight Title

Spain retained the Under-16 European Championship for Women by just two points in an entralling contest with the Czech Republic.

Marta Tudanca led the way for the Spaniards as they claimed their third consecutive title following wins in 2004 and 2005.

It has been a busy summer for the 174 cm Bartonova, who although just 16, played a part in Czech Republic's fourth placed finish at the Umcor U18 European Championship Women in Tenerife.

Katerina Bartonova was outstanding in Saturday's 81-68 win, the point guard scoring 17 points, three assists and four steals.

Lithuania squeezed into the Termosteps U16 European Championship Women semi-finals despite an 81-73 defeat to the Czech Republic in their last quarter-final Group F game. They went into the final 10 minutes 74-49 down but stormed back to close to 79-73.
