Russia Make It Three Wins In A Row

Russia entered tournament mode in the U16 European Championship Women winning 82-52 over the Slovak Republic.

Ksenia Levchenko had an impressive start, scoring from the three-point line on her first shot and preparing quick transitions to feed a 11-2 run, forcing Slovakia head coach Branislav Bazany to call a time out with less than four minutes played.

Russia were superior under the basket, scoring 16 of their 24 first quarter points in the paint and finishing the game with a 55-24 rebounding advantage.

The younger Slovak team felt problems to deal with the physically stronger Russians, but had a restless worker in Kristina Matuskova, who had 12 points and tried to bring her side back into the game.

Daria Kolosovskaya and Anastasia Borovykh, with 18 and 13 points respectively, were the top scorers for unbeaten Russia, who clinched first place in Group B.

The Slovak Republic will have to wait for the match between Serbia and Greece result to know if they have secured their spot in the Qualifying Round.
