San Marino hot shooter Julian Gualtieri did not see his huge efforts during the entire tournament being rewarded with the title for the local team, but he received due recognition for it.
The 1.88m guard was voted the tournament MVP and is therefore invited by FIBA Europe to the U18 All Star Game at EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania.
Gualtieri, who averaged 22 points per game, said he was very proud for being elected the MVP.
"It was a hard time to get there as I am not playing in a San Marino club. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to go to practice in Rimini. I had some tough moments during the season, but I always kept on thinking positive and going forward," he said immediately after receiving the award.
"I am very happy for the opportunity to participate at the U18 All Star Game during the EuroBasket. I want to thank my family and especially my Dad for their support. And of course also my team as without them I would never had the opportunity to play like I did and get elected the MVP," the San Marino guard concluded.
Sumiullah Khan and Jacob David Lloyd of Wales along with Vladislav Solopa and Daniel Marcenco of Moldova join Gualiteri in the All-Tournament Team.
The Fair-Play Award went to Brandon James Sawyer of Gibraltar for his sportsmanlike behaviour.
"It is definitely a life-changing experience and it changes how you play the game and how you think of the game. I loved every minute and I hope that it is not the last event, " the Gibraltar forward said upon receiving the award.
