The road to Riga for next year's EuroBasket Women is a lot bumpier than Bulgaria boss Nikolay Boroukov was hoping for.
At the draw on Wednesday in Latvia, Bulgaria were pooled in Group A with Ukraine and Germany, while Croatia, Belgium and Italy ended up in Group B.
The group winners will advance to the Final Round.
"Ukraine is great team," Boroukov said. "I didn't want this team for us.
"They had five wins and lost just three games in the last qualifications.
"They stayed in this additional qualifying round because of their coefficient."
Indeed, Hungary advanced to the Final Round as the best third-place team because their goal average efficient was better than Ukraine's.
"The Germans are better opponents for us, but the Ukrainians are the favorite in this additional games for Euro 2009," Boroukov said.
"But now, this doesn't matter. All three teams have their chances."
Boroukov will gather his group to begin preparing for the qualifying games on December 10.
"There will be some changes in the roster," he said. "I was not pleased with some of the girls. They didn't live up to my expectations and won't be invited this time."
Boroukov did not say which players would be dropped, or which ones would be added.
