Czechs Overwhelm Croatia, Poland Fall



Martin Kríz, averaging 15.3 points and 12.3 rebounds, had 22 points and 15 rebounds as Czech Republic overwhelmed Croatia 92-67 to take control of Group F.

In the other Group F game, Finland edged Great Britain.

Alex Murphy had 14 point and a go-ahead lay-up midway through the fourth quarter for the Finns as they prevailed, 67-64, over the Brits.

Murphy also finished with eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

Ali Fraser had 21 points for Great Britain, who suffered their second defeat in a row.

Isreal Surprise Poland

Israel knocked Poland from the ranks of the unbeaten at the U20 European Championship Division B with a 76-73 victory in Sofia on Wednesday.

The Group E game was tied at 64-64 with 6:29 to go when Israel's Guy Lavie scored on a driving lay-up.

That sparked a 6-0 run, with Bar Timor and Lavie again making lay-ups.

The Israelis stayed on top the rest of the way.

Shawn Dawson led Israel with 19 points and Or Solomon contributed 17.

Poland center Przemyslaw Karnowski poured in 19 in defeat.

Also in Group E, Belgium handed Bulgaria their first loss, winning 82-62.

The hosts were involved in a tight game until the fourth quarter when Belgium outscored them, 30-13.

Arne Steinbach and Elias Lasisi scored 19 points apiece for Belgium.

In Classification Round games for 9th to 18th place, the Slovak Republic won 80-60 over F.Y.R. of Macedonia, Denmark hammered Switzerland 78-47 and Belarus beat Hungary, 70-60.
