Lithuania expected to go to the top 8 of the championship, but after failing to finish in the top 4 of Group B, it was successful in achieving the closest possible ranking to its goal. In the battle for the 9th place Lithuania beat Bulgaria in a game that was decided already after 3 quarters.
Yet another overtime in this Championship. Bulgaria needed the extra 5 minutes to send Latvia to the 11-12 games, and face Lithuania in attempt to capture the 9th.
Back in the 50’s and 60’s the senior team of Bulgaria was a member of the European elite. The golden age of the Junior National Team was during the late 70’s and early 80’s when the team reached the Semi-finals four times in a row and won 2 bronze medals back-to-back (80’ & 82’).
Following the conclusion of the Challenge Round, the 12 teams qualified for the 2004 European Championship for U18 Men are now finalised.
