Germany lifted the U16 European Championship for Women's Division B title, defeating England 66-63 in the final in Arad.
But in a tight showdown between the two teams who earned promotion, the Germans had to hold their nerve in the closing stages after their opponents came from 10 points down to threaten an upset.
However the champions, led by 17 points from Ama Degbeon, did just enough after they had earlier led 36-29 at half-time.
Emma Stach hit two free-throws to open up a 52-42 cushion late in the third quarter. And although England, paced by 24 points from Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott, fought to overturn that deficit, their attempt fell short.
Latvia, headed by Katrina Kate Visnevica's 19 points, claimed the bronze medal by crushing Bulgaria 84-52.
Slovenia beat Estonia 59-45 to end up fifth while Lithuania ended seven after beating Ukraine 83-68.
