Gorbunova Tops The Polls

26 November 2004

This week's MVP award goes to one of Europe's brightest young prospects. Kozachka-Zalk forward Olexandra Gorbunova may just be 18 years old, but she has already made a name for herself in basketball circles.

Gorbunova had a hectic schedule this summer, representing Ukraine at both the U18 and U20 European Championships for Women. Although Ukraine did not excel as a team, Gorbunova was outstanding and selected as MVP of both events.

As of November, Gorbunova has been playing with Kozachka-Zalk in the EuroLeague Women, her debut year in Europe's top club competition. Her team picked up their first win against Baltiskaya Zwezda this week and Gorbunova may just have had her breakout performance.

Although she got just 20 minutes of court time, Gorbunova exploded for 21 points and 11 rebounds (6 offensive) as her side ran out to a massive win, 97-44.
