Pécs 2010 stayed firmly into the hunt for a place in the EuroLeague Women post-season with a 75-72 upset of Good Angels Kosice in Hungary. Zeljko Djokic's battling Pécs improved to 4-5 with the victory and moved into fourth place in Group A, with USO Mondeville (3-5) due to play later Thursday evening against Cras Basket Taranto. Pécs were awesome. They got a terrific game from a host of players, including their captain and veteran, Dalma Ivanyi. The point guard scored a season-high 18 points, handed out six assists and also hauled in eight rebounds. It was Kelsey Griffin who put the hosts in front to stay with a three-pointer midway through the third quarter for a 47-46 advantage. Point guard Zsófia Fegyverneky followed with a basket and though Kosice's Candice Dupree scored to bring the deficit back to 49-48 with 2:37 to go in the third, the visitors got no closer. Alexandria Quigley answered with a three-pointer and then after Kosice pulled to within 52-50, Ivanyi struck from the arc. Pécs went in front by 10 in the fourth quarter before winning by three. The Hungarian side excelled at the free-throw line, making 22 of 23 on the night. They also shot the ball well from long range, drilling seven of 15. Kosice were four of 10 from three-point land and sank eight of 11 free-throws. Dupree had 18 points in a losing effort. Good Angels dropped to 5-4. |
