Tonight Delta ICP hosted Mizo-Pecsi VSK in Group B of Euroleague Women. The fifth-placed home team was looking to avenge the humiliating 41-point defeat they suffered last week at the hands of Valencia.
Despite the rowdy fans of Pecsi who made the trip to Kosice, the players of Delta were unwilling to give up any ground on their home court. By the sixth minute of play Delta led 12-9, but the Hungarian team capitalized on their turnovers and scored at ease.
In the middle of the second quarter the score stood at 24-27 and there was the question of who would grab hold of the momentum. Unfortunately for the home team, Pecsi went on a 10-0 run led by two long-distance three-pointers from captain Dalma Ivanyi. This turn of events however did not discourage the Slovakian Champions, as they kept on fighting.
Sloppy play plagued the start of the third quarter for both sides. Delta was unable though to take advantage of their opponent's mistakes and faced an 11-point deficit going into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter played out much the same for Delta as they were unable to find a solution to the stifling defense of Mizo-Pecsi. Whereas normally they could rely on three-pointers to fight back, tonight Slávka Frniaková and Ivana Jalcová were cold from the outside.
The visitors from Hungary went on to win 61-74, and with it proved why they are second in their Euroleague division with an 8-1 record.
