Slovenia Heaps More Misery On Belgium

Slovenia top scorer Eva Lisec had plenty of support from point guard Nina Gabrovsek, who finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists

A fantastic double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds by Eva Lisec helped Slovenia claim a memorable 58-56 overtime success against troubled Belgium, who slipped to successive defeats at the U18 European Championship Women.

Having been sensationally routed by the Serbians on day one, it always seemed likely that Slovenia would face some kind of backlash by a Belgian team with wounded pride and for most of the game, this was the case.

Last year's gold medallist held what looked like an unassailable lead at 49-35 after a Harriet Bende score with just over six minutes remaining.

But, a fragile Belgium then pressed the self-destruct button and allowed Slovenia back into the game.

Lisec was on fire and completed a 15-0 run for Slovenia to hand her team the lead.

At 52-52, Lisec had the chance to win the game during regulation with a three-point attempt, but she was to soon get another opportunity of glory.

The highly-rated center scored the last basket of the contest to hand her team their first win in Group D and pile more misery on their opponent.
