After missing out on EuroBasket 2011 due to injury after Belgium qualified for a Final Round for the first time in 17 years, Hervelle finally made his tournament debut in 2013 in Slovenia where he averaged a tournament-high 7.9 rebounds per game, almost a decade after his first senior appearance following service at U16, U18 and U20 levels. He now has over 120 caps. His career started with Verviers-Pepinster, who he led to their first-ever Belgian championship final in 2003, and then helped Real Madrid to the Spanish title in 2005 and 2007 and ULEB Cup in 2007 before being chosen with the 52nd overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2005 NBA Draft, the first Belgian ever to be selected. He originally joined Bilbao on loan in 2010 before making the move permanent, agreeing a new three-year deal in July. Hervelle was named Belgium's Sportsman of the Year (Mérite Sportif) in 2005.
