Van Malderen was a revelation for the Belgians at EuroBasket Women 2003, averaging 11 points and 4.6 rebounds in 26 minutes per game. That experience meant the Brussels native finally came out of the shadow of Ann Wauters and into the limelight.  She waited one more season before making the move abroad, starting off in Italy, at La Spezia and finishing the same season with Leon in Spain. The next season, she went back to Italy to help Cavezzo stay in the A1 league. This past season she came off the bench for Parma and averaged 10 points and 4.7 rebounds.
