A late omission from the Belgium squad for EuroBasket 2011, Mwema broke into the team to make his competitive debut in last summer's qualifiers to complete a rise which had seen him represent his country at Under-16, U18 and U20 level. Dividing his junior development with Brasschaat, Ticino Merksem and St. John Basket, he signed his first professional deal with hometown club Antwerp in 2008 and agreed to a new contract earlier this year with the Giants which runs through until 2016. He was named as the Belgian League's Most Promising Player in 2012. He attended Lessius University in Antwerp and has been involved in a talent discovery programme called ‘Belgium Got Game'. Mwema is the son of a Belgian mother and a Congolese father. His sporting heroes are Usain Bolt and LeBron James. On Twitter @JeanMarcMw.
