Hungary Top Romania To Stay Perfect


Four games into the tournament Hungary stay undefeated to put themselves in a good position for one of the three promotion spots at stake

Hungary improved to 4-0 at the U20 European Championship Women Division B as they finished strong to beat Romania 73-51.

Hungary needed a big fourth quarter to secure the win, having allowed a big early advantage to slip away as Romania rallied before half-time.

Hungary led 22-13 at the end of the first quarter but Romania came storming back in the second and led 29-28 on Sonia Ursu's lay-up before Judit Manyoky resonded to give Hungary a one-point edge at the break.

It was still close, 50-45, when Alexandra Ionescu made a lay-up early in the fourth, but Manyoky's three sparked an 8-0 Hungary run as they outscored Romania 21-6 over the closing stages.

Lilla Adamecz led Hungary with 19 points while Anna Mansare added 15 and Manyoky collected 12.


Hosts Scrape Win Over Bulgaria

The Czech Republic improved to 3-1 as they held off a Bulgarian rally to win 69-64.

The Czechs had enjoyed a 39-27 lead at half-time, but Bulgaria came storming back in the third quarter to close the gap to one point, 55-54, going into the final stanza.

It was one point again, 63-62, with 2:19 left after Kalina Aksentieva's free throws.

Petra Bakajsova went to the line to edge the Czechs clear with two free throws, and then split a second pair to make it 66-62.

Veronika Petkova's lay-up cut the gap but the Czechs iced it from the line with further free throws from Barbora Kasparkova and Renata Pudlakova.


Belgium, Switzerland Record Wins

Emmanuella Mayombo scored 25 points with five rebounds and five assists to lead Belgium to a 68-58 win over Germany.

Belgium pulled away in the fourth quarter to improve to 3-2, outscoring Germany 18-5 over the final five and a half minutes as they came from behind.

Finja Schaake led Germany with 21 points.

Switzerland rallied in the fourth quarter to record their first win of the tournament, beating Israel 61-57 as Melissa Favre scored 10 of her 13 points in a late surge.

The Swiss had trailed 45-37 early in the fourth quarter but Favre then came to life.

Bar Galinski had 22 points and 19 rebounds for Israel.
