Germany, Bulgaria Survive Relegation Battle

Germany and Bulgaria both secured their Division A status at the U20 European Championship for Women at the expense of Belgium and Greece.

While Germany already knew their fate coming into Saturday's final action in the Classification Round, Bulgaria knocked off Belgium 74-68 to stay top flight.

With the winners of the game staying in Division A, Daniela Peteva paced five Bulgarians in double figures with 17 points. Jaklin Zlatanova collected 15 points and 15 rebounds and Dimana Georgieva had a double-double of her own - 12 and 11. Veselka Todorova added 14 points and Maria Tzankova chipped in 10.

Sara Leemans scored 23 points and Romina Ciappina added 18 points for the Belgians, who had an 11-point lead in the first quarter but could not keep up their play.

Germany had already booked their spot in Division A for 2009 before Saturday's game against Greece but collected their third straight victory - 68-55 against the Greeks.

Nicole Dietz led the way with 15 points while Hanna Mügge and Anna-Lisa Rexroth each tallied 11 points for the winners.
