Belgium have set the early pace in Group A of the UMCOR U18 European Championship
for Men Division B following a 75-54 win over Czech Republic.

The Czechs had held a 34-31 advantage at half-time, but Belgium produced a stunning late display with a 30-13 run in the final period turning the game in their favour.

Jean Marc Mwema stole the limelight for the Belgians with 19 points and nine rebounds, while David Jelinek poured in 19 for the Czechs in a losing cause.

Also in Group A, 23 points from Moritz Lanegger helped Austria hold off the challenge of Denmark and sneak a 74-71 victory.

In Group B, Netherlands were resounding 103-40 winners over Armenia with Joshua Kramer scoring 21 points for the Dutch.

And Finland edged a tight contest against Poland 81-76, with a 24-11 run in the second quarter proving the difference for the Nordic nation.

Adam Szczepan Waczynski scored a game-high 26 points for the Polish team.

Luxembourg began their Group C campaign with a 60-38 triumph over Switzerland - Raul Birenbaum and Frank Wiseler scoring 11 points apiece for the winners in a low-scoring contest.

In the same group, a 28-point haul from Olexiy Shchepkin helped Ukraine post a 73-64 victory over Ireland.

A 29-24 burst in the final quarter - and 23 points from Stian Mjoes - was not enough to prevent Norway from falling to an 81-74 loss against Montenegro in Group D.

But Hungary fared better in their game, coming back from a 21-11 first-quarter deficit to seal a 61-49 success over Portugal.

Adam Hanga led all scorers with 21 points for the Hungarians.
