Botas, Kayseri and Gran Canaria Into Quarters

19 January 2012

22. Monica Wright (Botas)
Botas's top scorer,  Monica Wright, had 19 points in the return leg as Courtney Paris did most of the damage with 21 points and 10 rebounds

Botas overturned an 11-point first-leg deficit against USO Mondeville and advanced to the EuroCup Women Quarter-Finals.

Kayseri Kaskispor knocked out defending champions Elitzur Ramla and Gran Canaria completed a big triumph over Besiktas to also progress.

Beaten last week in France, 69-58, Botas returned home to Turkey and claimed an 82-67 victory for a four-point triumph on aggregate.

Courtney Paris had 21 points and 10 boards for Botas.

The hosts only led 75-67 with 1:09 remaining after Naignouma Coulibaly sank one of two free-throws, so that gave them a three-point deficit on aggregate.

Botas' Noel Kuin hit a jumper with 50 seconds to play for a 77-67 lead and after KD Sharp missed a jumper with 21 seconds to play for Mondeville, Botas rebounded and called timeout.

When play resumed, Paris was called for travelling, but Quianna Chaney came up with the play of the game for the hosts.

The 30-year-old American stole the ball from Coulibaly and raced in for a lay-up and a 79-67 Botas lead.

Chaney was also fouled on the play and made the free-throw for a 13-point advantage.

Down by two on aggregate, Mondeville got the ball to Czech Republic international Katerina Zohnová but the recent signing was called for travelling and turned the ball back over to Botas.

Sharp fouled Kuin, who made both free-throws for the 15-point win.

Elitzur Ramla won their game at home against Kayseri Kaskispor, 70-64, but that wasn't enough to progress as they fell by 10 points last week in Turkey.

Ramla did have their chances to advance because with 1:01 to go on Wednesday, a Laine Selwyn lay-up gave the Israeli club a 70-59 lead, thus putting them in front by a point on aggregate.

Le'Coe Willingham, who was a key player in Ramla's EuroCup winning team last season, plays for Kayseri now and she answered with a lay-up against her former team.

Doneeka Hodges then added a pair of free-throws to make it 70-63 and Ramla's hopes died when Shay Doron missed a couple of free-throws with five seconds to play.

Gran Canaria downed Besiktas for the second week in a row, winning this time in Turkey, 78-61, for a 26-point triumph on aggregate.

Dandra Moss had 21 points, six rebounds and six assists and Astou Ndour weighed in with 19 points and seven boards.

Vanessa Blé also had a game-high 14 rebounds to go with her 11 points for Gran Canaria.
