French League Round 1 Review

08 October 2012

EuroChallenge outfits Paris-Levallois, JDA Dijon and Gravelines-Dunkerque all won on the opening weekend of the French Pro A season.

Paris-Levallois romped to a 93-75 victory over a visiting Orléans.

JDA Dijon claimed a 65-63 triumph at Cholet, one of the top teams in France in recent seasons, and Gravelines-Dunkerque rolled to an 82-73 win against Strasbourg.

Paris-Levallois are stocked with talent and should give opponents in Europe and France tough games all season.

Sean May's 22 points and seven rebounds led the charge in their win.

Andrew Albicy is back at Paris Levallois after one year in Dunkerque and was red-hot in the opener against Orleans with 15 points and 10 assists

The contest was tight heading into the fourth quarter but Paris-Levallois dominated the last 10 minutes, outscoring Orléans 28-13.

France international Andrew Albicy had a game-high 10 assists to go with his 15 points for the winners.

Paris also have France international Antoine Diot, who scored 19 points, and Jawad Williams (18pts).

Dijon faced a 52-46 deficit heading into the last frame of their game against Cholet but won.

Andre Harris' 14 points and eight rebounds led the way for Dijon.

Gravelines-Dunkerque were also in fine fettle against a Strasbourg side that is coached by France national team boss Vincent Collet.

Juby Johnson scored 15 points for the victors.

Another side competing in the EuroChallenge, SLUC Nancy, launch their French league campaign at Le Mans on Monday evening.

Last year's Coupe de France, Semaine des As and French league winners, Chalon/Saône, suffered a 72-71 home defeat to ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne - the side coached by France women's boss Pierre Vincent.

Senegal international Amara Sy of Asvel snapped a 69-69 tie with 41.6 seconds left by drilling a three-pointer over the out-stretched arms of Chalon star Blake Schilb.

"This is good for the confidence," said Sy, who had 10 points and five rebounds.

"It confirms that we are on the right path, so we will continue to work.

"We always believed."
