JDA Dijon coach Jacques Monclar wants his players to have more self belief, claiming their attitude going into the EuroCup tie against Virtus Bologna cost them the chance of an upset.
The French team were the underdogs ahead of the Round II Group L opener on Tuesday night, and they were duly defeated 95-77 by one of the favourites for the title.
Monclar, however, was disappointed to see his side stride onto the court with a negative mindset.
"They were stronger than us, that is clear," he said.
"But what bothers me is how we didn't rediscover the aggressiveness of our previous European matches - it is as if we were beaten before the game had started."
Italy international Andrea Michelori carried Virtus early and then his team-mates went on a decisive run at the end of the first quarter en route to the win.
Eleven of Michelori's 18 points came in the opening eight minutes of the game.
A 14-2 surge gave the hosts a 35-21 advantage and they never looked back.
Anthony Lux starred for Dijon and led all scorers with 26 points, but the French side clearly missed the presence of Senegalese star Maleye N'Done.
"In a game like this, you can't do without a player like him," added Monclar.
Dijon's next game in Group L is against Akasvayu Girona next Tuesday.
