Bibrzycka And Co Hold Off MKB Euroleasing

10 November 2005

Lotos Gdynia edged MKB Euroleasing 84-81 in game that had numerous lead changes and wasn't decided until the final seconds of the contest.

Lotos of Poland, who boast the exquisite talent of guard Agnieszka Bibrzycka, got another outstanding performance from their Polish international. The 1.84m star had 24 points, following on from 18- and 29-point games in defeats to Bourges Basket and Gambrinus Brno.

Bibrzycka, who played more than 34 minutes, was seven of 14 from the field and a perfect eight of eight from the free throw line, while also pulling down five rebounds.

Gdynia appeared to be in control in the final 15 seconds with an 82-73 lead but they had to survive a last few moments with Edit Ratkainé and Andrea Károlyi hitting back-to-back three-pointers.

Ratkaine buried her shot, and after Lotos' Donneka Hodges turned the ball over, Karolyi pulled up and hit her shot from behind the arc with seven seconds to play.

MKB fouled to stop the clock, however, the hosts' Gordana Kovacevic made two free throws to seal the win.

Ivana Matavic had 18 points for MKB, who are 0-3 in the EuroLeague Women.

They were outrebounded 37-29 in the game. Another factor that weighed heavily in Lotos' favour was the number of trips they made to the charity stripe.

They took advantage, sinking 28 of 31 (90.3%) for the contest.

MKB took just nine trips to the line and made seven (77.9%).
