Ekaterinburg Hold Off Sopron

Nikki Teasley's best efforts were not enough to prevent MKB Euroleasing from going down to an 84-80 defeat at the hands of visiting UMMC Ekaterinburg on Wednesday in a EuroLeague Women clash.

Teasley's game-high points haul of 24 and eight rebounds were impressive statistics but victory eluded the Hungarian side, who were thrashed 96-71 by Gambrinus Brno of the Czech Republic in their opener.

When a lay-up from Lucie Blahuskova with 2min 49sec remaining put MKB 74-73 ahead, it looked as though the hosts would record a win.

However, two Yulia Mironova three-pointers quickly put the Russians back in front at 79-74.

An Ekaterina Sytnyak free throw for UMMC and then a Teasley lay-up made the score 80-76 before two Teasley free throws brought the score back to 80-78.

Sytnyak then showed her own efficiency from the charity stripe with two free throws before a Reka Cserny jump shot made it 82-80.

Two more free throws from Audrey Sauret Gillespie sealed the win for Ekaterinburg and rendered Teasley's unsuccessful three-point attempt on the buzzer futile as the Russians held on for a second win after last week's success against Italy's Famila Schio.

Blahuskova (16) and Cserny (10) also posted double-digit scores for MKB but UMMC had five players who achieved that feat.

Sytnyak's haul of 16 was matched by Batkovic, who also hauled down seven rebounds, while Oxana Zakalyuzhnaya (14), Sauret Gillespie (10) and Elena Karpova (10) also impressed.
