Hungary: Sopron Snap Up Gorbunova

03.08.2005

Hungarian side MKB Euroleasing Sopron have signed Ukraine's sensational young talent Olexandra Gorbunova from Kozachaka Zalk.

The 186 cm Gorbunova has been a revelation on the European youth scene in the last 2 years, dominating her competition and piling up individual trophies.

She was selected MVP of both the U18 and U20 European Championship Women competitions in 2004, and repeated that honour at this year's U20 European Championship in Brno, where she averaged 25 ppg and 12.9 rpg while leading Ukraine to 7th position.

Although she is just 19, Gorbunova already has a season of EuroLeague Women action under her belt.

She played 15 games in the competition for Kozachka, contributing 10.3 ppg and 4.1 rpg.

Gorbunova will be a valuable addition for Sopron in their plans to dethrone Pecs as the dominant force in Hungarian basketball. She will also play a major role in their EuroLeague Women campaign, which begins on 26th October with a trip to 2005 finalists Brno.
