Preparations for Austria's national team are well underway before their Division B group encounters against Cyprus, Albania and Belarus in September.
At an average age of just 22, Austria has one of the youngest national teams participating in FIBA Europe competition this year.
Austria came within a whisker of finishing their 2004 European Championship qualification games with an unbeaten 3-0 record.
Instead it was Belarus who took the game (91-92) in Oberwart, as well as top spot in Group C, Division B.
With an average age of just 22, Austria’s men’s national team will be one of the youngest on display in Division B of Eurobasket 2005.
The side, led by Head Coach Michael Schrittwieser, came up against some quality opposition this weekend, taking on Hungary, Poland (both Division A) and Iceland in a friendly tournament.
Following the meeting of the FIBA Europe Board in November 2002, it was decided that a new system of qualification would be implemented for the 2005 European Championship for Men.
