VICI Aistes pulled off one of the biggest EuroLeague Women shocks in recent memory after 27 points and a last gasp score by Ausra Bimbaite propelled her team to an incredible 81-79 success against reigning champions Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje.
It was a sensational result for the home team who were playing in Kaunas for the very first time and even the fact the visitors were without world stars such as Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson won't stop the shockwaves of this result reverberating around Europe and beyond.
In fact, at one point it had even looked like the four-time title winners might be left feeling a little embarrassed and humiliated after they were blown out in the first half, at one point finding themselves 43-24 down after a triple by Bimbaite.
However Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje showed exactly why they are a champion team by digging deep and storming back in the second half.
When they tied the game up with two minutes to go and then moved three points ahead inside the last minute, it looked like they had dodged a bullet and the hosts had allowed a golden opportunity to slip but Bimbaite wasn't to be denied.
She fittingly levelled with another score from the perimeter and then ensured her name would be written into Kaunas basketball history by converting the winning basket to seal a victory that will live long in the memory.
It was the first time Sparta&K M.R. Vidnoje had lost in Europe since way back in the 2009 season when they lost in Valencia against Ros Casares, a proud run that despite this loss should not be overlooked.
While Bimbaite stole the headlines with her final tally including four triples as well as 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists, it was a superb team effort by the young VICI Aistes team to show the character to see the win out.
Epifaniya Prints (Prince) finished with 22 points and 5 assists for the losing team.
