Fenerbahce Survive Tough Fight With TEO Vilnius

15 October 2008

Fenerbahce trailed late in the third quarter but held their nerve and beat TEO Vilnius 76-68 in the EuroLeague Women opener for both sides.

The Turkish giants, who no longer have star point guard Cappie Pondexter following her move to UMMC Ekaterinburg but still have Nevriye Yilmaz, got 18 points and seven rebounds from their center.

The visitors from Lithuania trailed by as many as eight in the third quarter but came back to twice go in front by one.

Nalan Ramazanoglu's lay-up put Fener into a 57-56 advantage by the end of the period and new signing Nicole Powell, the sensational three-point shooter, buried a shot from the arc to start the fourth.

Fenerbahce had the lead for the remainder of the game.

Crystal Langhorne, a member of the Team USA set-up, had a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds in defeat.

Esmeral Tuncluer had 15 points, Nevin Nevlin 12 and both Powell and Tammy Sutton-Brown 11.
