Lietuvos Telekomas are hoping an unusual project will strike a chord with Lithuanian basketball fans and help drum up support for the new season.
The Vilnius-based club, who have dominated Lithuanian basketball in recent years and were bronze medal winners in last season's EuroLeague Women, have recorded an official team song.
The club enlisted the help of InCulto, one of the nation's most popular bands, to record a song that would reflect the excitement and emotions of watching women's basketball.
And after watching a series of games, a rock song has been recorded which features a variety of slogans and applause that the club is hoping will alert fans to the spectacle of women's basketball.
"By presenting this song to the team we are trying to change the stereotype about women's basketball, which wrongly states that women's basketball is less spectacular than men's. Actually, it deserves even more attention," InCulto's lead singer Jurgis Didziulis told the club's official website, www.telecombasket.lt.
"This song is about emotions raised by basketball.
"To tell the truth, we did some research, we were watching the games.
"Our interest was in the play and in fans' reactions as well. We saw how devoted they are. You will find it all in this song."
Lietuvos' general director Arvydas Tamasauskas believes the recording, which also features Lietuvos players, will be well received.
"It is perfect to lift up the emotions of the players and their fans, to keep everyone in a good mood," he said.
The song took more than two months to record and 23-year-old guard Ausra Bimbaite relished the experience.
"It was really interesting to try out our vocal capabilities," she said. "We had a lot of fun.
"It took us very little time to forget the thrill of singing and to feel in the singer's role."
InCulto is planning to produce a video for the song which will also star the Lietuvos players.
Lietuvos begin their national championship on Friday in Klaipeda looking to stretch their undefeated domestic run to 150 games and won 115-36 over Lemminkainen.
