|Boris Rothbart and Maccabi Haifa left the competition on a high after snapping the Spartak winning streak|
Maccabi Haifa brought the seven-game winning streak in the EuroChallenge of Group I winners Spartak Saint-Petersburg to an end on Tuesday by beating the Russians 92-86 in Israel.
With only pride to play for, the hosts, whose lone victory in the Last 16 had come against Barak Netanya, stormed into 24-15 lead by the end of the first quarter and used that advantage as a platform for victory.
Boris Rothbart led Haifa with 23 points while Spartak, who had already clinched first place in the pool and were playing without injured Henry Domercant and Evgeny Kolesnikov, got 20 points from Nikola Dragovic.
Anton Ponkrashov added 18 points and Patrick Beverly 15 for Spartak, who hadn't lost in the competition since December 7 at Szolnoki Olaj.
