Barak Finish Strong To Take First Win

Barak Netanya scored the final seven points of the game to emerge from a tense finish with a 77-74 road win over Maccabi Haifa, their first win in EuroChallenge Group I.

In a close battle, Barak had edged ahead, 70-68, on Dartona Washam's free throws with 3:30 to go.

But Maccabi responded with a mini-spurt as Boris Rothbart's lay-up levelled the scores before Franklin Robinson's dunk and a lay-up from Germaine Jackson made it 74-70 with 1:51 left.

Jackson fouled Washam but he could only split his free throws to lead them still down three with 74 seconds left.

But Jackson then committed a costly turnover and Adrian Banks brought the visitors back within one, 74-73.

Derrick Low missed a three-pointer for Maccabi, and David Asante made them pay as he made both shots from the charity stripe to give Barak an edge with 22 seconds left.

Another turnover, this time from Avraham Ben Chimol with only eight ticks on the clock, denied Maccabi a chance to shoot for the win, and instead Banks made sure with an emphatic dunk on the break.

Banks finished with 24 points while Washam had 14, Elton Brown 13 and Romeo Travis 12.

Rothbart led Maccabi with 15 points while Low had 14 and Marco Killingsworth 13.

Barak improve to 1/4 in the group, the same record as Maccabi.
