|Tatyana Troina has opted to stay close to home to get ready for EuroBasket Women|
Tatyana Troina has decided to play in Belarus for the remainder of the season with EuroCup Women outfit BC Horizont.
One of the leading players in a Belarus national team that has won a lot of fans the past several years, Troina played hurt at the FIBA World Championship where she and her country missed out on a place in the title game following an overtime defeat to the hot nation, the Czech Republic.
After having an operation on her injury and then going through rehabilitation, Troina elected to remain in her homeland to play and get ready for this year's EuroBasket in Poland.
Troina had considered playing abroad but there was a significant factor that pulled her to Horizont.
The coach is Anatoli Buyalski, Troina's national team boss.
"Let's just say I'm comfortable with him," she said.
"As a coach I have known this person for a very long time.
"I am sure there will be no mischief on his part."
Troina says the EuroCup is an excellent chance for the national team players in the squad to get high level competition.
"There are only a few countries where the leagues are strong - Russia, Turkey, Spain," Troina said.
"Others boast of nothing special.
"Therefore, the more competition, where you fight the best of the best at the international level, the better for the athletes."
Horizont play at Dynamo-GUVD in Russia in the Eight-Finals of the EuroCup on Thursday night.
