Brno Turn Back Szeviép Upset Bid

Frisco Sika Brno came from behind in the second half to defeat Szeviép 69-61 in the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday night.

The Czechs overcame a 48-38 deficit midway through the third quarter to win for the sixth time in 10 games while Szeviép missed a chance to claim a victory that would have put them in the play-offs.

As it was, they slumped to a seventh setback in 10 EuroLeague Women games and Lotos Gdynia claimed the fourth play-off spot on offer from Group D.

Eva Viteckova scored 19 points for the Czechs, who had already assured themselves of a place in the Eighth-Final Play-offs..

With 5:12 remaining in the third quarter, Szeviép appeared to have a great chance to snatch victory.

They were on top 48-38 after a basket by Olena Zherzherunova.

The visitors didn't press home the advantage and instead, Brno fought back with a Viteckova three-ball trimming her team's deficit  to 52-51 at the end of the third quarter.

They finally took the lead for good midway through the fourth quarter when Hana Horakova buried a shot to make it 62-59.

Brno ended the game on an 11-2 run.

Zherzherunova had 17 points and seven rebounds in defeat.
