Nika's voice has been heard right from the start with a great showing at U16 level when he posted double-double figures of 16.5 points and 10.3 rebounds at the European Championship. It was enough to be quickly spotted by top teams in Italy and by the age of 17 he had already made his Euroleague debut, though a very short one, with Montepaschi Siena. In the past seasons Metreveli has been trying to find a niche for himself in Italian basketball, moving between several clubs. The constant moving has not boded well for his career, and he spent the last season in the third division, but finally had a chance to play a substantial role. With his great size, good mobility and outside shot, he remains a promising prospect, but at 22 he should now be looking for the "late bloomer" label if he wants to break through.
