Giorgi Shermadini was something of a late bloomer as he did not start playing basketball until the age of sixteen. He has certainly made up for lost time by impressing enough to gain interest from the NBA before subsequently being snapped up by Greek giants Panathinaikos who handed him a four year deal. Having spent last season playing in Ljubljana on loan in Euroleague, Shermadini arrives at EuroBasket 2011 with added experience and having posted some impressive numbers to underline his potential. His role with the National Team is usually as a vital back-up option for Pachulia. He has good physical capabilities including long arms and moves well for a big man. He is strong under the basket and a clinical finisher who also has a good shooting touch from range. At only 22-years-old, his game is still evolving. |
