Lots of NBA scouts have paid a visit to the U18 European Championship in Zaragoza to follow the future stars of the basketball world and possible future draft picks. For some of the young players the presence of the scout is stressful, for other it provides a bigger motivation. Only one player was free of worries and didn’t have to think about the NBA draft – Viktor Sanikidze of Georgia.
Georgia’s 2nd win of the tournament saved them from last place. In the 11th-12th place game it was Latvia who suffered the loss, despite another big performance from Edgars Jeromanovs who finished with 29 points and 9 rebounds.
The first match of the 9-12 games had only one team on the court. Lithuanian national teams are used to play for the top 8, but despite the obvious disappointment, they gave a good hustle against Georgia, and as a result the game was decided early in the 2nd half. They didn’t stop for one second, and continued to take everything out on Georgia.
Following the conclusion of the Challenge Round, the 12 teams qualified for the 2004 European Championship for U18 Men are now finalised.
