Georgia Wins for Third Time in Tight Finish

Karlo Dzeverlija, KK

It looks like neither Latvia nor Georgia can manage without suspenseful finishes. In another exciting game, with a result of 67:65 (8:17, 27:34, 51:49), Georgia proved to be better than Latvia. With this win it has bought itself the chance to be at the head of Division C.

At the end of the first quarter and going into the second, Latvia took the lead with a 13:0 series. They managed to stay ahead right up until half time, thanks mostly to Andris Biedrins. Again the 213cm center played well at both ends of the court. In the first half he managed eight rebounds, five blocks and successfully drilled the Georgian net 12 times.

Like the day before, Georgia's Manuchar Markoishvili dominated the remainder of the game. Again an awesome shooting series (0/11) was suddenly halted with 3 unstoppable three pointers. Then he was joined by the other key player on the team Viktor Sanikidze (ended with 19 points and 13 rebounds) and Georgia takes the lead.

In a tight finish Georgia wins with only a two point lead thanks to shooting guard George Tsintsadze (17 points).

Markoishvili led the winners with 20 points (six steals) while in the defeated team's lineup Biedrins booked 28 points, 11  rebounds and eight blocks.
