| 16.07.2010 By David Hein Tugce Cantinez and Esra Ural registered double-doubles to lead four players in double figure scoring in Turkey's convincing 75-61 victory over Belarus at the U20 European Championship for Women.
Cantinez collected 16 points, 16 rebounds and three steals in helping Turkey improve to 2-0 in Group D. Ural had 11 points and 10 rebounds while Safiye Karaman chipped in 10 points, and Asena Yalcin added 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a winning effort.

Turkey jumped ahead early on with a 14-0 run to build a 23-8 lead after one quarter. The advantage grew to 16 points early in the second period before Belarus used the three-point ball to stay within 40-28 at the break.
Belarus trimmed the deficit to nine points before the Turks went on a 13-3 surge to open a 53-34 margin. The lead grew to 22 points and was still 60-42 after three quarters.
Belarus continued to fight and moved within 66-54 until Turkey answered with the next nine points to finish off Belarus.
Marina Solopova had a strong overall game in guiding Lithuania to a comfortable 77-36 victory over Romania to remain perfect as well.
Solopova collected 22 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals as Lithuania improved to 2-0 in Grobina. Egle Siksniute had 15 points and nine rebounds and Giedre Paugaite added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Gabriela Munteanu scored 10 points in a losing effort for Romania, who dropped to 0-2 in the group.
After Lithuania scored the first eight points of the game, Romania came back to within 9-5. But the Baltic nation went on a 13-3 run for a 14-point lead and it was 22-10 after one quarter.
Lithuania started the second period on a 13-2 surge and led 40-16 at halftime.
An early 9-0 Lithuania run in the third quarter helped push the lead to 56-20 before Romania were within 57-25 after three periods
Romania would get no closer than 33 points the rest of the way while Lithuania increased the lead to 44 points. |
