Italy advanced to the Qualifying Round of the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women after beating Ukraine 64-55, on the final day of the Preliminary Round games.
The Italians were down by five points in the beginning of the second quarter, but their dominant performance helped them to take a seven-point lead at halftime.
They kept their pace after the break and never let the opponents to be in control of the game again.
Ukraine cut the gap to four points, after a three-pointer made by Oleksandra Chek in the debut of the final period, but that was all the losing side could do.
Alexandra Formica was a weak link in the first half, scoring only four points but was a big factor in the second part of the game and finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Francesca Dotto contributed with eight points, six rebounds and three assists to this important success of the Italian team.
Lyudmila Naumenko and Oleksandra Chek combined for 35 points and Naumenko added 11 rebounds and three blocks to her performance, which was shadowed by her seven turnovers.
