Slovakia made it three out of three in the Classification Round for 13th to 16th place at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women, after an easier than the final score suggests win against Ukraine, 65-54.
Although in the end it was just a single-digit gap, Slovakia controlled the game from start to finish.
They worked patiently to build a comfortable lead, and midway through the third quarter, they were in front by 25 points, 50-25.
The Ukrainian side never had a real shot to win this game, and all they could do was to limit the proportions of the loss in the final quarter.
Barbora Balintova had a double-double for the winners, with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Sabina Oroszova finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Slovakia got a big input also from Michaela Rakova, 10 points, and Angelika Slamova, with an excellent all-around game, nine points, six rebounds and five assists.
Ukraine's Oleksandra Chek led all scorers with 17 points and she was supported by Miriam Uro-Nile with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Lyudmila Naumenko, who totaled 11 points and nine rebounds.
Slovakia now tops Group G with six points, while Ukraine is third, with four points and still maintains hopes of avoiding relegation despite this setback.
