It had been more than one week since Lithuania won their first game at the Global Vision U18 European Championship Women.
On Friday they recorded their second victory, 68-63 against Ukraine, in the Classification Games for 13th to 16th place to maintain some hope of avoiding relegation to Division B.
The only other Lithuanian success at this tournament had come against Poland in their opening game.
Since then the Baltics lost five in a row and they were at the bottom of the standings in the relegation zone.
They reached what can turn out to be an important victory against Ukraine behind a brilliant game by Ieva Kazlauskaite, who finished with 17 points, five assists and three steals and Ieva Preskienyte, who added 16 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
Oleksandra Chek responded with 16 points and eight rebounds for the opposite side, helped by Miriam Uro-Nile, with 15 points and four rebounds.
Lithuania won only one of the four quarters, the second one, but their impressive performance, 24-7, was enough in the end to capture the win.
