A New Identity For European Women's Basketball

The U18 European Championship Women taking place in Nitra, Slovakia this week is a showcase for some of the best basketball talent in Europe.  It also highlights the growth of the women's game and the steps taken by FIBA Europe to give European Women's basketball its own identity as decided by the Board of FIBA Europe on 11th November 2007.

Two teams competing in Nitra: Romania and Ukraine are wearing a new uniform designed by the manufacturer TUTA in cooperation with FIBA Europe.

Turkey Slip Past Ukraine
Ozge Yavas made a pair of free-throws with 12 seconds left in the game as Turkey held off the Ukraine 74-72 in the U18 European Championship for Women.

The Turks scored the first 11 points of the game and looked on their way to a straight-forward enough win as they took a 47-38 half-time lead, thanks to a three-point clinic in the first half.

Poland Pull Away Late
A strong push late in the third quarter propelled Poland past the Ukraine 73-64 in the U18 European Championship for Women.

The result sees Poland improve to 2-2 in Group E of the Qualifying Round while their opponents dropped to 1-3.

Hot Shooting Lithuania Topple Ukraine
Lithuania scorched the Ukraine with six three-pointers in the second quarter to secure a 71-52 win in the U18 European Championship for Women.

Aurime Rinkeviciute hit four of seven attempts from downtown in the first half to help Lithuania remain one of only two teams - France being the other - still undefeated (4-0) in the tournament. Marina Solopova had a team-high 16 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
