The Ukraine basketball team warmed up for next month’s European Championships by finishing second in a mini-tournament in Israel.
Hennadiy Zaschuk’s team were narrowly defeated by 70-61 the hosts in the final after they had earned victories over the Israeli youth team and Poland.
Ukraine were made to work hard for their 95-86 success against the Israeli youngsters in the opening game, losing Andriy Botichev and Arthur Drozdov to injury.
But their absences did not prevent Zaschuk’s men from clinching a 67-57 win over Poland to seal their place in the final.
Ukraine will continue their build-up to the European showpiece in Sweden with two further mini-tournaments in Spain, the first of which begins on August 23.
