Israel And Greece Survive

Israel and Greece can rest easy after ensuring their spot in the Division A for the next year thanks to two wins in the first two games of the Classification Round in the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men on Wednesday.

Ukraine and the Czech Republic are the two teams to be relegated to Division B.

Their replacements will be knows before the end of the week following the Division B games currently held in Portugal.

Both games were very similar.

Israel and Greece held a small five point lead at the break, but dominated the second half to save their spot, on the way to a double-digit margin.

Greece beat Ukraine 82-67 after holding a 41-35 lead at the break.

Apollon Deligeorgis helped his team reach a 15 point lead after five minutes in the third quarter, and the last fourth quarter push wrote the final sentence of Ukraine.

Deligeorgis finished with 17 points and five assists while Kyprianos Maragkos had 17 with eight rebounds.

Klym Antamonov led Ukraine with 17 points.

Israel sank the Czech Republic 82-57 behind a great second half show.

Just like Greece the Israeli team held a similar six point lead at the half, 40-34.

Laish and the two Cohens shoot Israel to an 18 point lead after six minutes inside the third quarter, and the Czechs were unable to threaten that margin.

Noam Laish led Israel with 19 points, Omer Cohen had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists and three players scored ten - Or Solomon, Ran Cohen and Sergey Zelikman who also added 11 rebounds.

Jan Svandrik had 14 points for the losing side.

On the last day Israel will face Greece while Ukraine will play the Czech Republic, in two games that won't effect the final standings.
