Big Second Half Propels Spain

Spain finished their Preliminary Round with an 82-56 win over Ukraine in Group B.

The win gave Spain the second spot in the group holding a 2-1 record while Ukraine will enter the next round from the third place after a 1-2 record.

Joan Tomas led Spain with 24 impressive points and Pedro Farina scored 11 with six rebounds.

Olexandr Mishula led Ukraine with 19 points including four hits from long range, Olexandr Omel'chenko added 11 and V'Yacheslav Bobrov finished with ten points and 13 rebounds.

Ukraine had difficulty maintaining possession.

They finished the game with a tournament high of 33 turnovers.

Just like in yesterday's match against Lithuania the team from Kiev matched-up for one half but couldn't hold longer than that.

Spain held just a two point lead after 20 minutes but won the second half 53-29.

Mishula was the go to guy in Ukraine making 11 points already in the first quarter when his team took a surprising 16-13 lead.

He climbed to 16 by half time when Spain was still looking for their first three pointer of the night and some shooting rhythm.

That's exactly what Tomas showed in the third when he connected 16 points showing his set of tools around the rim.

The margin was extended by the minute as Spain pressured the ball resulting a series of turnovers on the Ukrainian side on the way to the big win.
