Greeks, Czechs Win Openers
Greece and Czech Republic started their Classification Round 13th to 16th Place Group G with victories over Ukraine and Finland, respectively.
Giannoulis Larentzakis collected 31 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals in leading Greece to a 93-67 win over Ukraine. Apollon Deligeorgis added 20 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and eight steals while Dimitrios Agravanis had 11 points.
Ukraine were paced by Volodymyr Gerun with 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists and Danylo Zuikov scored 12 points and Klym Artamonov had 10.
Neither team could pull away in the first quarter, which ended deadlocked 21-21. Greece went on a 10-0 run to start the second period and were ahead 46-33 at halftime.
Ukraine was still within seven points in the third quarter, which ended with Greece ahead 60-51.
Greece finally went ahead for good with a 13-3 run for a 73-54 advantage.
The Czechs also moved to 1-0 in the group with a 72-55 victory over Finland with Martin Kriz collecting 21 points, 22 rebounds and five assists while Tomas Kyzlink had 15 points, 16 rebounds and three assists. Jan Lycka chipped in 13 points.
Finland were paced by Ilari Seppälä with 13 points while Kalle Naapi and Daniel Dolenc each scored 10 points.
Finland led 12-7 early on but trailed 19-18 after one period. The game was back and forth in the second quarter, which ended with Finland up 33-32.
The Czechs used a 16-2 third quarter run and led 53-44 after three periods. And leading by only eight points, the Czechs went on a 13-5 surge to put the game out of reach.
