Only four years ago Mario Delas looked to be set for great heights after being voted MVP of the FIBA U19 World Championship, leading Croatia to the bronze medal. But, for a big man with such an accolade to his name, he took a long path to the senior team jersey. In 2010, Delas went to Lithuanian powerhouse Zalgiris Kaunas, and later that summer injury prevented him from joining the national team. He spent most of the first two seasons in Lithuania gaining experience and valuable playing time on-loan with Siauliai and Baltai. Finally, he found his way into Zalgiris' rotation last season. Technically sound, Delas is good in the post and can sink shots from the perimeter, but it is his ability to provide energy and willingness to play hard-nosed defence that could help him make the team. Mario might team up with his older brother Ante if they are both selected.
