In an extremely intense, back and forth contest, Spain defeated France 94-85 in Group D action in Olympia to secure a berth in the Quarter-final round of the UMCOR U18 European Championship.
Spanish point guard Javier Forcada was the hero of the game, scoring 27 points and dishing five assists to go along with three steals.
Forcada delivered in the clutch for Spain by connecting on a driving lay-up to get his team going to start the fourth and then dishing out assists on a pair of baskets as Spain opened up a seven-point lead with 6:51 to go in the game.
Forcada continued his assault of the French by delivering the knock-out blow with his jump-shot with 4:46 remaining that gave Spain a commanding 10-point lead.
Victor Claves chipped in with 18 for Spain, while Adrien Moerman scored 27 points in a losing cause for the French.
Croatia 89, Iceland 55
Five players scored in double digits and Croatia nearly out-doubled Iceland in rebounding to help secure an easy 89-55 victory in Group D play at Olympia.
Aleksandar Ugrinoski, after scoring just three points in Croatia’s opener on Tuesday, tallied a team-best 18 against Iceland.
Center Filip Vukicevic came up with a big effort for Croatia with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Croatia used their height advantage over Iceland to out-rebound Croatia 64-38 for the game.
