Turkey blew away Croatia with a strong second-half performance on Friday in the teams' opening game of the U18 European Championship Men in Belgrade.
Croatia led 41-40 at half-time but were outscored 22-14 over the next 10 minutes.
They still managed to close to within two at 64-62 with 6:48 to play in the game but Cenk Akyol, who had 29 points to lead Turkey, then took over.
Akyol, a 1.97m guard, buried one of his three three-pointers in the game.
The next time down the court, Akyol showed his leaping ability by going up for a dunk after pulling down an offensive rebound and earning a foul on the play. He sank the free throw for a 70-62 advantage. Croatia never recovered.
Akyol was only seven of 17 from the floor but he made three of six from behind the arc. He was also a perfect 12 of 12 from the free throw line.
